This particular food match series was based off an argument at work. Ibadan has very few fried chicken centered outlet. Top two would most likely be KFC and chicken republic. Personally I don't feel these two are delivering quality services like their counterparts/branches in other states. It seems like most restaurants take advantage of the easy going customers and less competitive market in Ibadan. Oh well let's be grateful still. There was a time Mr Biggs was the only option here. This particular food match would be based on; presentation, price worthy, the chicken itself, sides and overall taste.
Ran a poll on twitter and apparently...
KFC, Palms mall Ringroad Ibadan.
Quite enough parking space.
Price- Streetwise: N1350
Chicken Republic, 96 MKO Abiola Way, Ring road Ibadan.
Enough parking space.
Price- Citizens meal- N1300
KFC: Presentation was so-so, I mean it’s KFC. Standard presentation across all Nigerian outlets, no?
CR: Presentation was so-so too.
I honestly doubt that fast food chains give much thought to presentation except it’s for an ad.
KFC: It's a bit more pricey especially considering the serving size of the side(chips) which was about a third of CR’s. The chicken pieces were much bigger.
CR: Fair price.
KFC: I had the crunchy chicken. It was pretty good. Really crunchy on the outside and oh-so-tender inside, with that amazing flavour. I really want that Colonel Sander’s recipe.
CR: The skin of the chicken was great. Just the right amount of pepper in the mix but the flavours remained outside. Bland chicken inside; no bueno.
KFC: The chips were great; just the right quantity of salt and crunch.lol. The serving size could be bigger because hello! #AdultNotToddler
CR: Whoosh! Easily the worst fries I have ever had ever! Tasting like they were re-fried in rancid oil. I packed it go and sought opinions from 2 other people. They hated it. Nuhhhhhhh!
KFC had this hands down.
KFC: Easily the tiniest KFC outlet I’ve ever been to. It’s great if you want to grab a bite during your shopping. (Did I mention it’s the KFC at The Palms?)
CR:Normal CR outlet. For some reason, someone was mopping around our feet and the security man was charging his phone right over our heads.
KFC:I’d say a rating of 3.5/4
CR: I’d say a rating of 2/4
CR's chicken has a more Nigerian tag to it. Hot, "pepperish" and spicy with added bonus of the skin taking up so much spice. The chips are horrible! I'd advice you rather go for the rice and chicken package. KFC was okay, a lot more oily, crunchy and less spicy. Usually crispy but they also have a spicy chicken option.
This is a tough pick for me. Put aside the disrespect over my head and horrible fries, using just the chicken as a criteria, I'd pick CR's chicken. Everyone else preferred the KFC chicken though.
