The name "crab shack" to me somewhat depicts some sort of seaside restaurant, with elderly waiters and folksy charm that offers cheap meals and big smiles. Do not judge a restaurant by its name! Contrary to my initial assumptions big easy displays a sort of cavernous theme with the entrance taking you down a long, dark tunnel, hot, noisy and thumping with activity. There is a wood-fired oven, glass sided grills full of red hot burning coals, there are flames, there is a 1,500kg lobster tank. These all seem very convincing for an American styled crab shack. Finally settled in and you can feel the smell of wood chippings hanging in the air. Wood themed decor, dim lights, black boards with lobster sizes, wall paintings and graffiti. They have one of the most beautiful sights for a bar I've seen. The bar boasts of an extensive collection of spirits, whiskey, rhubarb liqueur, rum, wines, cocktails and all sort of juice.
It's a loud and busy place. The lights here are a bit dim and so its a bit dark to read the menu.
Nonetheless we started off with starters, hush puppies; more or less sophisticated "puff puff". They are deep fried balls of cornmeal batter served with a chili dipping sauce.
We then settled for their boozy brunch special for only £29.50 and a lobster fest. The brunch special allows you to sample a little bit of everything, including North Carolina chopped pork, pit smoked BBQ chicken and st Louis pork ribs, slaw, pit smoked beans, fries and fresh baked cornbread. People at big easy know a lot about food presentation. They presented the meal like a platter with individual plates and pots for each part. Succulent meat, sweetened cornbread and spicy beans.
The lobster fest is also part of a special where you can choose either a whole fresh lobster, lobster roll or lobster mac n cheese. We got the whole fresh lobster and a lobster mac n cheese. Word of advice if you're ever coming here make sure you starve yourself, if possible for a day cause its food everywhere. The fresh lobsters are served with fries, house salad, hollandaise and a free slush cocktail of icecold big easy brew. The mac n cheese was perfectly cooked with hot gooey cheese in the middle, crispy browned cheese and big chunks of meaty lobster ensuring you had lobster in every mouthful.

Big easy is now one of my favorite places to be. The decor of crab-shack meets industrial it offers can be related to the fact that the building used to be a power station. It's bit noisy and the place can get rowdy sometimes but the quality of food more than compensates. Ideal for dates, family gathering, meets up or just wanting to try some lobsters. It's definitely a crab-shack redemption
