CHIQUITO RESTAURANT BAR & MEXICAN GRILL
24-25 first level mall, union square, guild square, Aberdeen, AB11 5RG, United Kingdom.
Quite okay parking lot.
Stumbled upon a Mexican joint at union square. There are so many restaurants here but this caught my eye particular because I saw "grill" as part of it's name. I fancy anything grill and foreign. It's a chain restaurant and a location in union square can serve as an escape for what can be a tedious shopping experience.
The place was chilled too. It had the Northeastern American diner setting mixed with some sophistication of a Mexican luxury. I'm not really sure why Trump wanna build a wall away from these people. They are neat, professional, nice and friendly enough, doing their job with a smile proudly worn like a sombrero.
I've never had Mexican before but the menu looks good. Vast options, familiar drinks and cocktails. A page from the menu boasts " ...using the tastiest ingredients with inspiration taken from the Texas borders through to mexico". Looking over the table the influence was clear enough: with latin american tiles, leather benches mixed pattern booths, branded sombreros and fancy light fittings present.
Settled for the Mexican paella, paella top up, chicken wings, chocolate orange cake and the Mexican mess. While waiting I had a Cointreau shot and a glass of margarita. Meal service was efficient.
Paella is a Valencian rice dish that could comprise with meat or seafood with special seasoning( like saffron). I haven't had any other paella to compare this with but it tasted okay. The wings were hot, spicy and unctuous.
For dessert we had the Mexican mess and the chocolate orange cake. The Mexican mess is a tortilla basket housed a mix of chocolate brownie pieces, a churro, strawberries, strawberry yogurt, raspberry ripple ice cream, chocolate sauce and a mountain of sweetened cream. I could feel the rich flavored churro with each bite.
