Sonic the Hedgehog’s lanky live action remake has sparked at outrage from social media. The criticism seem to stem from the depicted remake image of the main character, Sonic and not the movie plot. The backlash seem to be coming from both core fans (who want the original sonic image preserved) and people who probably just heard about Sonic, regardless the studio heard the outcry and decided with the creators on a redo.
Jeff Fowler, the movie director said via twitter that the changes were coming. He said; “You aren’t happy with the design & you want changes,” Fowler tweeted. “It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be.”
The original Sonic the Hedgehog character designer, Naoto Ohsima also joined in on the conversation. He tweeted, “So far, various Sonics have appeared…I loved all Sonics. I saw a trailer of Sonic’s movie. I was expecting adults to have fun too. I am worried.”
This not the first time social media would be outraged by a live action remake. Disney fans were angry over the look of Will Smith's Genie in the upcoming live-action Aladdin remake, but the outrage didn’t get any response from the creators. There must be something unique about Sonic fans
Sonic co-creator Yuji Naka also said; "The power of Sonic fans is amazing. It is good to go in a good direction. Thank you so much for loving Sonic."
