The king is back!! This is not a drill, I repeat, this is NOT a drill, the king is back!!
Sorry for all the histrionics, but I really can’t keep calm and neither should you. Jon FREAKING Bellion has crawled out of whatever black hole he was sucked into and has blessed us with a song!! It is the moment we have all been waiting for!
The song is titled Conversations With My Wife and a snippet of the song was posted on his social media on the 17th of October, 2018. It is the first single to be released off Bellion’s new album, Glory Sound Prep.
The 3 minutes, 26 seconds long song is different shades of awesome, I mean, it’s Jon Bellion we’re talking about here. Like some of his other songs, such as; Human; Ooh; A Haunted House and Simple & Sweet, it has a slow rhythmic intensity and electronic sound that is peculiar to Bellion. Another thing about this song is the way its lyrics is grounded in reality, and the absence of musical clichés. The intense combination of heavy bass and Bellion’s tender melody leads to a warm buttery feeling that just makes me want to never take off my headphones. Talking about life outside fame and his large fandom. See the lyrics to the chorus below,
“Will you love me when my phone turns off?
I don’t want to be some digital Jesus
No more followers, we’ll both get lost
When it’s me and you inside real life
Will you love me when my phone turns off?
I don’t want to be some digital Jesus
No more followers, we’ll both get lost
When it’s me and you inside real life
I just want me and you inside real life
(I just want me and you inside real life)”
Also there has been some buzz on whether he is married or not. He has not confirmed or denied the rumors, but as a HUGE fan, I can confidently say that Jon Bellion is NOT married. I mean, I really hope he isn’t. I’ll be crushed for sure. So here’s my theory; I think “wife” in the title actually means “fans”. It’s a long shot really, but it makes total sense. Look at this line in the chorus;
“Will you love me when my phone turns off?
I don’t want to be some digital Jesus”
I think he’s asking when the fame fades and all that part of his life is over, if we will still like him as Jon, the person and not Jon the music god. I honestly cannot even do justice to this song. It feels personal, intimate even. Like it’s just me and him in this room and he’s asking if I’ll stand by him no matter what (the answer’s yes, btw).
So what do you think of this song? Yay or nay? Did he hit or miss this one? Let me know in the comments. His album, Glory Sound Prep comes out on the 9th of November and I’ll be here bringing the juice to you. Meanwhile, I’ll be listening to Conversations With My Wife on repeat!
